Our Story

Kumano Adventures is founded on the belief that travel can benefit so much more than just the traveler. It has the potential to change local communities too.

We started Kumano Adventures as a way to make the Kumano area and the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route more accessible to international travelers, but also to preserve the cultural heritage of the region. Many of the places we visit, along with their historic festivals, craftspeople, traditional foods, and way of life, are under threat of disappearance as early as 2040.
